Movie reflections: Me before You

(For those who are familiar with me and this blog, well, whatever is here that sounds like it is not coherent is because I cut and paste the content from my closed blog.)

I was contemplating hard on whether to post a spoiler-free post, or one with spoiler-alert. Not that it really matters, since no one else reads my blog anyway anymore. But... oh well, I should challenge myself for the sake of challenging myself, and try to start with a spoiler free post.

The movie is nice, and I enjoyed it a lot... to the point that I am going to blog about it now. Well, it is about a story (I am still wondering if I will call it a love story... oops, sounds like spoiler?) about the actress (Emilia Clarke as Louisa Clark) working as a caretaker for the actor (Sam Claflin as William Traynor), who is almost fully paralyzed from neck downwards.

It's sweet at times, and no spoilers if you watched the trailers, I made a comment which make sense during the movie:

Are we watching the movie and hoping that the girl will break up with her boyfriend so that she can get together with this guy? 

Well, you will watch it to find out if that happens. Overall, I find the movie enjoyable, with an ending that was surprising, depending on whether you think like me or not. (I was not surprised)


Now, here comes the spoiler alert. If you intend to watch the movie, stop reading already. What I am going to type next will totally spoil everything, because I will be blogging about the fundamentals of the movie which keeps you watching during the show.

Last warning before I proceed.

Alright, I am very very sad at the end, most likely just like everyone else.

Why did Will still choose to die? When both of them seem to be loving each other so much?

I thought a lot a lot about this, and thought of the words said by Will (i obviously cannot do a direct quote), but he meant along the lines that, he had everything before the accident, and after the accident which resulted him in his current incurable state, every single day is a living hell. He is in pain both physically and mentally. This is the reason why he choose to end his life.

No doubt, Lou entered his life, and add color to his dull life after the accident. They loved each other, and they kissed each other to show their affection.

But is that enough to stop him from dying?

What I like about this movie is that it is not about a fairy tale. It felt very real, in the sense that the guy choose to stick to his plan of dying, despite loving the girl. No doubt, I secretly hope for the happy ending, where the girl managed to successfully change his plans to die by showing him the beautiful things about the world.

Will wants Lou to live. From their interactions, Will realise how narrow Lou's view of the world is. Lou was brought down by her family, as she could not further the studies because she need to work to support the family. Hence, she does not have much ambitions. Will saw that in her. From his background, where he was so successful, he saw the potential in Lou. To live the life that he once lived, to experience life that she has never experienced before.

Yes, that might be his way of loving her. To let her go. To die, so that she can move on.

With him alive, Lou will be forced to continue staying by his side, taking care of his needs. He will be just like her family that bound her to her town. Hence, Will cannot live selfishly, and he also cannot bear the possibility that one day in the future, Lou will regret being bounded by him, should they live on happily ever after.

Hence, I understand why he choose to die. Because firstly, he cannot let go of the perfect life in the past as compared to his current state, and secondly, he also does not want to be selfish to clip the wings of Lou.

While coming to the above conclusion to help me better accept the ending of the movie, I am still sad. :(

Oh well.. at least this movie left an impression in me.

Is saying something false lying? Or is saying something true lying?

What about saying something true while claiming to be saying something false?

Alright, it has been some time since I last blogged on this public blog.

It's a pity how things work in real life.

It's like... sometimes when you break something, it remains broken forever.

Of course, I am an optimistic person, but it's not Sunday everyday.

So, as much as I sympathize with your situation, I guess... like what my 2IC in Delta said,

Happy 25th bday~

Today is a special day.

Today is my birthday.

Once again, I have reached a special year because of many aspect:

1) Between 24 years old and 25 years old, my status changed from "Student" to "Employed".
2) I am now at the age of what many people referred to as, "Quarter life crisis age".
3) Although I am employed, I feel like a student. Lol.

So anyway, I guess I shall start with a proper entry, some sort of reflection for the past one year of my life.

Maybe this reflection is meant for a "end of year" entry, but then again, who is to set the rules? I shall just blog what I want to blog about, as usual.

This is a special year, for both good and bad reasons. And I shall start with the bad ones, since... well, we should always end things on a high note. My 24th year old was basically a year filled with politics. And it's really ridiculous how things happen. I am more or less positive that in years to come, when I read this entry again, I would be amazed by how such politics actually made it up on my important post of the year, but oh well, I am amazed now too. Due to that, my actions, my behaviour, and my experience totally changed from the past years, and... now I see a different side of life. The side of life which I miss out before, and it is not necessarily a bad thing. Another thing will be about my blog, or rather, the inactiveness of me in blogging.

Now, to the good things that happen to me this year. There are too many. :P Haha~ first of all, I want to declare my appreciation and love for my wonderful girlfriend, Jane. =) Throughout my 24 years of life, besides my family, this girl is probably the best thing that happened to me :') My life has changed ever since I met her, and I definitely believe that we will be as loving all the way until I reach my target 100 years old part of my life. Thank you Jane for everything she has done for me, whether it's the nice birthday presents, or the pleasant surprises. =) Secondly, I graduated! Lol. Ok, it wasn't out of expectations (since my grades weren't bad), but still, the whole, "end of your academic life" thing is just bitter-sweet altogether. Finally, I am "out of the system", though ironically, we all enter the next "system", which is working life; and many says that this suck even more. Lol. The third thing will be my job. Once again, for those who don't know, I am now working under CAAS as a PATCO (probational air traffic control officer), and what I am going through now, is the theory training phrase of my career. In essence, I am now on a 3 month theory course, and I have to clear 14 exams within these 3 months. I am given free food, and good welfare. Lol. (the free food are good, but also bad because I am fat now and forced to go on a diet by skipping my teabreaks T_T ) Number 4, I am in this job together with 30 other colleagues, and they are all friendly people! So, the environment now is extremely positive, and I do hope this will continue all the way. Lastly, I want to congratulate my best friend for getting attached! Yay!! =) I hope you will lead a happy life with him, even though I haven't seen him in person yet. Lol. And why this is considered as "good things that happen to me this year" is because I am so close with this best friend that whatever good things that happen to her is almost the same as happening to me. Lol.

A long update

Ok, for those who still visit this public blog in the hope of getting an update, congrats! Finally an update! :D

So.. long story short, I graduated, found a job, and started working. Thanks.

The purpose of this entry is of course not just an update.

Since 7 years ago, this blog have been serving one purpose: to let people know about my thoughts/views. So, this entry is also for that purpose.

It is always easy for people to misunderstand, especially when only one out of two parties are talking. Currently, I think I am involved in this mega politics that is going on behind my back, based on various sources and social media platform. And all along, my stance have been to ignore them, because I feel that politics is something that's so childish that I am disgracing myself if I "play along" with them. Naturally, people exploit this "absence of voice" and do/say a lot more.

I honestly think, fundamentally, there should be a misunderstanding somewhere. But I am too tired to bother about it. The same issue has been raised before months ago, and when I raised things up, I did it within a few days after my knowledge. And guess what? That thing has been ongoing for weeks, or even months.

Why can't people seek clarifications when they get their info? Why do people choose to talk behind people's back without clarifying? Then say, "Ok, thing cleared. No more problems anymore" (not exact quote, just the essence) in your face, then behind your back still continue doing whatever you have been doing.

Grow up please~ Lol. And I am saying this for your own good, not mine.

Yes yes, you can bad-mouth me, delete me from your facebook, and try to "win" friends over to your side. Do I look like I bother about popularity? I come to this world without it, and I will leave the world without it. You can collect it, and bring it to your grave instead, provided the truth do not uncover itself.

I am here, living and sleeping in peace; you can live and sleep in fear of the day truth sees the light. ;)

Be glad I still give you chance by not mentioning your name, even though my girlfriend did it (which she copied from your twitter account).

Anyway, speaking of "winning" friends over. There is a phrase called "浮云", which literally means floating clouds. Non-Chinese readers can infer that it refers to things/people that float around. They do not stay. Yup. Friends who can be won over are just like floating clouds. I don't really see the need to try to win them back, since they floated away. True friends stick, and I have a number of friends who know me well, and decided to stick with me. For these friends, I thank them and appreciate their loyalty.

Also, actually, this blog entry is partly inspired by a friend, or maybe, a "friend". Here's a special message for you:

Hey, there are actually many things I wanna tell you, yet I have nothing to talk to you anymore. I do miss the times we had together, but oh well~ One of my personal philosophy in life is: All of us have to suffer the consequences of our actions. Maybe I lost you as a friend, or you lost me as a friend, but I can assure you: It all boils down to your actions and decisions. You are one of my closer friends and yet, you choose to do what was probably the dumbest thing: Talk behind my back without clarifying with me/talking to me. Well done~ Come I clap for you~ And you actually say FALSE THINGS about me too, providing ammo for "that girl". Wow. And guess what? Like what I said when we talked that night, I forgive you. But then what happen after that? You know what you did/did not do. So.. yeah, I see no reason why I am sticking around. So sorry, but if you continue your stance, 明哲保身 (you can google translate the meaning of this), then goodbye~ Maybe you don't see the need to have me as your friend, which explains your inaction, and your decision. So if that's the case, I have no need for such "friends" either.

I am not one who really hold grudges against people. I finally understand truly what my friend said last time, "Don't tell me to forgive and forget. I can forgive, but I will not forget". Yup. Ditto.

So, finally I have come to the ending part of this entry~

For people who are just here for gossips, here you go.

For people who want to redeem yourselves, you don't even need to do favours for me. Just do what is right. Like first of all, clarify whether the truth tally with what you hear/spread.

真理是不变的。The truth will always be the truth. It will not be twisted.

And yes, CHL, you can continue to play victim. Just make sure you don't 假戏真做 and get hurt for real ok?

SS KTV 2

Yay~ a proper complete entry after so long.. :P

This got to be one of the happiest day I have spent together with my friends during recess week. So, here we are, 3 of us again, Mbi Kim and me, singing long hours (6pm-11pm) of KTV at Teoheng again. The last time we sang was about a year ago, and so this K session was really really great. We have so many songs that we wanted to sing with each other! :P

I can't believe I forgot this... but today, I once again got reminded of the fact that Kim is so far my best and most cooperative duet partner~ =D We sang a few duets together, like 狂风里拥抱，全部都给你 and 只要再看你一眼. Haha~ and of course, her duet with Mbi was also great! =D

Well, considering the fact that we still have a few pages of unsung songs, I hope we will sing again soon!!! =)
